The main character of FerPect Crime is a man, quite literally, born to be a salesman. His mother went into labour in the very department store where he works. He is driven by an unshakable thirst to Get What He Wants. And he always does. His smooth charm and salesmanship have conquered every obstacle save one; he is in competition for the job of floor manager with the head of the menswear department. He has now worries, of course. He has never failed to obtain what he seeks. Only things... go wrong.
While the acting of the principals is excellent (the 'vilainess' in particular is captivating as her true, black heart is slowly revealed), many of the secondary roles seem flat, even mailed-in.
The humour for the most part is excellently black, with some straight-up slapstick thrown in.
The plot, though, is superb. Events unfold carefully and methodically, revealing to the audience and the principles countless unforseen consequences of seemingly inoccuous actions. And the finale is unexpected and marvellous.
