I think this might be one of those "date movies" that tries to be a movie with something for the guys and something for the girls. Hence the "killers + babies" concept. Amazingly, it works really well. If I had known that was the premise, I would have avoided it. After all, I've seen City By The Sea and that was just horrid. Luckily, I was attracted by the whole "boy and his step-mother are a successful hit team that encounter problems when she gets cancer" advertised plot line. Even better than Bodyguard, this might be the best date movie ever.
To say more might be giving away the plot. You know, if you're picky about those things.
Mikey is a professional killer. He's well suited to the job, probably because his dad killed his mother, and his step-mother killed him. It's his step-mother that got him into the business of course. Since she handles the administrative stuff of the job excellently, and he's just made to be a cold-hearted killer, they're a great team. So they have a very, um, interesting relationship. What with the cancer though, she's been thinking about god a lot. In her line of work, that's just not a good idea. For the job they get that's going to be her last (an assault on a mansion requiring both of them) she has to kill a pregnant woman. Who goes into labour when she sees the gun. Unable to kill her, she decides they'll deliver the baby instead. Luckily, Mikey obeys his step-mother without too much fuss and allows the plot to devlop. Since they'll all be in incredible danger if anyone figures out that they didn't kill the woman, they all go into a bit of hiding. Mikey can't stop working, so this baby boy is raised in a, um, interesting household. This does, of course, eventually become an issue. By then, Mikey has begun to realize that there are actually things that he wants. The woman and the son being near the top of the list. Of course, their secret can't hold forever, and eventually the man who bought the hit that caused all these problems originally shows up in a fantastic final showdown with an excellent cyclical ending. The beauty of it being that while it's a very similar cycle that has begun, it's a much better one. Isn't it?
