Something positive: this movie was goregous to look at, you can not fault the brothers Quay's eye.

The rest: this movie would have made a great 20 minute short feature. There's just no "there" there, if you know what I mean. Furthermore, it is my opinion that the director and the audience enter in to a kind of deal, and if you, directors, spend a whole movie talking about the mad doctor's fabulous and intricate musical automatons, giving furtive glimpses of their workings, and hinting at their terrible purpose, then you owe us some narrative resolution, you'd sure better show us those automatons in action, it is not enough to say "it's happening over there, just off screen! Goodness!"

Movies at the festival have their descriptions written by festival programmers, and Peirs Handling, you have burned me for the last time! The last time!
